MBT  FIXATION

Those facing the challenge of soil remediation for PFAS know these contaminants are very difficult to address.  The intended chemical properties and strong bonds of PFAS, and their ability to leach from soils and solids due to these properties, mean PFAS resist methods to eliminate their presence and mitigate their extraordinary capacity to migrate through the environment.  Yet the problem of PFAS leachability into groundwater supplies means the issue cannot be ignored.

YBT offers a molecular binding/bonding (MBT) treatment technology shown to stabilize and sequester PFAS in soils and solids.  The MBT process effectively fixates PFAS and other organic compounds to mitigate their mobility from these materials.  MBT reagent variations similarly address leachable heavy metals and other inorganic substances, allowing the host matrix to remain on site or be safely disposed in licensed landfills without risk of releasing contaminants to the landfill.

MBT TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Treats leachable PFAS, metals and radionuclides in soils and solids.

  • Two (2) reagent systems:

    • MBT- HM for heavy metals and radionuclides,

    • MBT- OC for PFAS and other organic compounds.

  • Yields soil-like mass that retains constituents of concern that are not readily leached or extracted by contacting fluids (USEPA Test Methods).

  • Contaminants are limitedly extractable by contacting fluids or solvents, and when subjected to intense particle-to-particle abrasion.

  • Addresses PFAS telomeres of various carbon chain lengths.

  • Treated material removes PFAS, metals, etc. from carrier fluids, e.g., landfill leachate, AMD, surface water run-off, and groundwater that it contacts.

  • Limited mass and volume increase: treated material dewaters by gravity drainage, evaporation, and capillary drying.

  • MBT Technology is owned by HMR Solutions INC.

  • Patents-pending in the US and abroad are licensed to YB Technologies.
